Editor’s Note: Every time Walmart announces a big lay off, they always spin it like they are “re-imagining” Walmart and reorganizing labor and shuffling people around etc., like it doesn’t have anything to do with the fact that the economy is tanking and technology is making human labor worthless. How much longer can they keep up this PR spin?

Walmart spokesman Kory Lundberg said the jobs are back-office jobs such as accounting and other positions, and the cuts affect about 1,500 jobs, or two or three people per store.

Not all those employees will be let go, however, as most will be offered a position elsewhere in the stores.

One of Walmart’s goals, Lundberg said, is to get as many of its 1.4 million workers as possible out on the floor meeting and dealing with customers. The move comes as Walmart puts in place a new campaign to upgrade stores and enlarge online offerings.

Blah blah blah…

Once the big layoffs begin, it’ll be like dominoes falling. What will the masses do when even the crappy minimum wage jobs are wrenched away from them?
