In an Instagram post last week, famous Latino actor George Lopez decided to step into our very charged political climate. Mr. Lopez not only took on a hot topic, illegal immigration, but he insulted a group that generally has high favorability among the public: the police. In an Instagram post, Lopez is seen standing in front of a wall with the words, “The Trump administration is deporting Latinos to make the streets safer… You wanna make the streets safer deport the police.” on it.

To say that this did not sit well with his followers is an understatement, but unwilling to stop digging himself into a deeper hole, the Latin actor decided to also bring up police brutality when he said, “This is not an indictment of all Law Enforcement, some still just beat you #gacho #georgelopezonhbo #TheWall ( @momorodriguez #gracias.”

The backlash was so negative that Lopez quickly made his account private. There was no shortage of outrage from fellow Latinos, including Latino officers, who wished Lopez would spend some time in their shoes before making such an outlandish suggestion. Below are some examples of the outrage.

“francesca0910On my way to vigil for a fallen Dominican police officer in New York City she lost her life in the line of duty and left behind 3 beautiful children, so find your comments disrespectful and distasteful as a fellow Latino I’m very disappointed @georgelopez

delosreyes_santiago Should they first start with all LAPD officers who are Hispanic??? @georgelopez

john.madeuce @georgelopez how can you say something like that? Why don’t you do a ride along with a local Police Department so you can see what we actually do!

mr_s_fernandez @georgelopez Eres una vergüenza para los Hispanos! (Translation: You’re a disgrace for Hispanics!) Sincerely-Mexican Police Officer

“Not cool @georgelopez. I’m Latina and I’ve been pulled over more than enough times for speeding. All but one cop were nice and respectful.”

The theme of supporting the police, most of which were seen as good people doing a tough job, was persistent. Many commenters pushed back against such an overgeneralized anti-police sentiment.

The public has taken very little advice from Hollywood actors over the years, but since the election of Donald Trump, more and more people have tuned out the California elites, wishing Hollywood actors would stay out of politics.

With Kathy Griffin holding up a bloody head of the commander-in-chief, countless actors, and liberal Hollywood stars, claiming they were going to move to Canada (to date, not one has left, but one has come back), calling Americans dumb, calling for assassination attempts on the president and many other actions, everyday Americans find inappropriate and over the top.

The opinions of actors have yet to be received well by the general public. One commentator hinted that these moves are career ending blunders.

“ @georgelopez what a great way to end your career.  Ask Kathy Griffin”

Illegal immigration and deportation has become a very heated topic for the left because America has a president that is very against illegal immigration, wants more deportations of criminals and a border wall to prevent future people coming here via the side door, instead of through Trump’s “big beautiful front door”.

Lopez doesn’t address the fact that many Latinos are the primary victims of illegal immigrant crime. Latino communities would be the victims if this foolish, flippant comment were ever a policy. The police keep safe the immigrants the left claims to defend.

Gangs have been terrorizing immigrant communities for decades. A new gang fighting for more power and territory, Florencia 13, which has strong ties to the Mexican Mafia has turned south Los Angeles into one of the most dangerous counties in the country.

Gangs bring kidnapping, drugs, female trafficking, murder and destruction to the communities they inhabit. Mr. Lopez is not using his high profile to bring a spotlight, and offer solutions, to this problem, but criticizing the very people protecting the victims.

FBI crime stats show that illegal immigrants are heavily involved in criminal activities. Some statistics:

  • 75% of those on the most wanted criminals list in Los Angeles, Phoenix and Albuquerque are illegal aliens.
  • 25% of all inmates in California detention centers are Mexican nationals, 40% of all inmates in Arizona and 48% in New Mexico jails.
  • +53% of all investigated burglaries reported in California, New Mexico, Nevada, Arizona, and Texas are perpetrated by illegal aliens.

When the crime stats attributed to illegal immigrants, who many estimate are around 4% of the US population, is extrapolated out, this small, unlawfully here population commit 22% to 37% of all murders in the nation.

Since these illegals are primarily of Latino descent, they are blending in amongst other Latin immigrants, making them victim to crimes at an alarming number. Who is going to protect the illegal immigrant that is here for a job, from those who are gang members, rapists, DUI offenders, killers, kidnappers and worse? The very same police officers that Mr. Lopez wishes to deport.
