In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Bill Nye “the science guy” suggested that older people need to die in order for everyone else to combat climate change.
“Climate change deniers, by way of example, are older. It’s generational. So we’re just going to have to wait for those people to ‘age out,’ as they say,” Nye told the Times‘ Patt Morrison. In case there was any doubt about his meaning, he clarified: “‘Age out’ is a euphemism for ‘die.'”
“But it’ll happen, I guarantee you — that’ll happen.” Ouch.
To make matters worse, he blamed “deniers” for making the issue political.
“I’m not the guy denying climate change. You guys started it. I didn’t want to be political,” Nye said. Really? The desire for people to die to advance your own political agenda is nearly the definition of a totalitarian.
Here’s the thing — the alarmists are exactly the ones politicizing the issue. They want the government involved, whether through job-crushing regulations, installing a carbon tax, or flushing taxpayer dollars to alternative energy companies. God forbid they let the free market solve the issue.
This focus on power explains why alarmists feel the need to stifle debate and claim the science is settled. Indeed, a Georgia Tech climatologist had to resign to keep her scientific integrity on the issue. Furthermore, there are serious issues with climate models, and prediction after prediction has proven false.
Americans are worried about climate change, and many companies have taken the initiative on their own to cut their carbon footprints. When President Donald Trump announced the U.S. would pull out of the Paris Climate Agreement, the Left went crazy. But after the freak-out, Democrats discovered the virtues of federalism and local government.
Three Democratic governors announced they would abide by the Paris deal. This allows more local control on the issue, as liberal states can spend their own money fighting climate change without forcing the entire nation to do so. As former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg suggested, they don’t need Washington.
If alternative energy technologies improve and become more profitable than fossil fuels, there will be no need for disagreement on these issues. It is the alarmists, not the skeptics, who are attempting to enforce their views on national policy.
Perhaps nothing underscored the focus on power more than Nye’s statement that “we’re just going to have to wait for these people to ‘age out.'” Does he really consider climate skeptics as worthless human beings who will just have to perish in the name of progress?
Bill Nye is far from an expert — he got his bachelor‘s degree in mechanical engineering — and he has made quite a few rather unscientific statements in the past. This past February, he told Fox News’ Tucker Carlson that humans cause “100 percent” of climate change. Granted, this isn’t quite as bad as Stephen Hawking’s bizarre suggestion that carbon emissions can turn the Earth into Venus, but that’s a rather low bar.
If Nye insists on waiting until all the climate “deniers” are gone, he’ll be waiting quite a while.
