Bachmann: Trump is ‘Man of Prayer’ and ‘Wants to Lift up the God of the Bible’

Michael W. Chapman

Former Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) said President Donald J. Trump “understands who the God of the Bible is” and wants to lift up God in America because Jesus Christ is the “underpinning not only of the United States but of Western civilization itself.”

Bachmann added that Trump’s regular White House prayer meetings honor God and make Christ’s presence a “regular part of life,” a part of “the America we used to know.”

During a July 22 interview with host Jan Markell on the “Undersatnding the Times” radio program, Bachmann, who recently visited with the president, said, “There’s an awful lot of work that needs to be done, but he’s up to it, to making it happen, and people across the world are seeing it.”

“Not the globalists,” said Bachmann.  “The globalists are being frustrated at every turn because he’s a very unusual character. He’s not predictable, other than he is committed to the United States. And he is unashamed in standing up for increasing an awareness of God in the United States. He recognizes how important that is and that that is a basis of Western civilization.”

“I am so happily surprised by what I’ve seen in the Trump administration,” she said.  “I’m so glad for this opportunity today because I’m not here as a Trump cheerleader – that’s not what I’m about. But what I’m here to say — as a believer in Jesus Christ — I could not be more happy with what I am seeing coming out of the Trump White House. This is beyond my wildest expectations.”

Host Jan Markell then said,  “Well, you told me there are actually like 13 true Bible believers in his cabinet. You’ve told me that there are regular prayer meetings going on in the White House, the Senate. Contrast that to the previous eight years where people were tripping over Muslim prayer rugs. So this is kind-of a new day.”

Bachmann replied, “There are prayer meetings. There are Bible studies going on. And the president himself is a man of prayer and a man who loves to receive prayer. He is happy to receive prayer.”

“But more important than anything,” she said, “he is a man who, I do believe, understands who the God of the Bible is and he wants to lift up the God of the Bible here in the United States. He understands that is the foundation, that is the underpinning not only of the United States but of Western Civilization itself.”

“The Lord is working mightily in our government and I believe it is because God is being reverenced,” said Bachmann. “God is being lifted up. Prayer is not foreign in the White House, it’s not foreign in the Executive Office Building. Looking to God, looking through Bible studies, this is not foreign now anymore.”

“And this is a regular part of life,” she said. “It’s an active part of life. It’s a part of the America we used to know, and be a part of, and now it’s coming back again. That only redounds to good things in our society.”

Bachmann, 61, served a sa member of Congress from 2007 to 2015, representing Minnesota’s 6th District. She and her husband, Marcus Bachmann, have five children and, over the years, have served as foster parents to 23 other children.

Bachmann ran for the Republican nomination in the 2012 presidential election.
