Here’s how a Fox News host cost Reince Priebus his job at the White House

Reince Priebus is making the rounds on the talk shows as the former White House chief of staff, but he likely won’t mention the role a Fox News host might have had in his ouster from the Trump administration.

In a report from the New York Times, a source revealed that “The Five” co-host Kimberly Guilfoyle told President Donald Trump that Priebus was the source of the leaks from his administration. She reportedly told him this during a dinner meeting Wednesday that was itself leaked to the press afterward.

“Ms. Guilfoyle told the president that Mr. Priebus was a problem and a leaker,” the report said, “someone who was not serving his agenda, according to a person briefed on the conversation.”

Whether this was the deciding factor in giving Priebus the axe, just two days later it was announced that he had resigned. Priebus has said that he notified the president of his resignation on Thursday, the day after the dinner.

The leak of the dinner to the media was the subject of White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci’s now infamous obscenity-laden phone call to Ryan Lizza of the New Yorker. According to Lizza, Scaramucci called him and demanded to know who leaked the information about the dinner – Lizza refused.

Scaramucci then seemed to blame Reince Priebus for the dinner leak, calling him a, “f**king paranoid schizophrenic, a paranoiac.” He went on to mock Trump’s senior advisor Steve Bannon, saying “I’m not Steve Bannon, I’m not trying to suck my own c**k. I’m not trying to build my own brand off the f**king strength of the President. I’m here to serve the country.”

Lizza later said he recorded the tirade. Scaramucci didn’t deny the report, but objected to it being reported as he had believed it was a confidential phone call.

The White House communications director had also appeared to accuse Priebus in a tweet of leaking his financial disclosures to the press. He deleted the tweet when it was widely reported that the disclosures were easily obtainable by the public.

Friday when Priebus went to CNN to speak about his exit from the White House, Wolf Blitzer asked him directly if he had been the leaker. Priebus gave a non-committal reply and only said that he was offended by the question being asked.

If Guilfoyle had anything to do with Priebus’ ouster it would be ironic because there were reports in May that she was seeking to replace his fellow GOP establishment colleague in the White House, former Press Secretary Sean Spicer. Very soon after those reports were publicized, Trump was said to be incensed that she was spreading the story.
