Listen: Sebastian Gorka delivers masterful defense of Trump’s military transgender ban

Sebastian Gorka, who serves as deputy assistant to President Donald Trump, unequivocally defended Trump’s controversial ban on transgenders serving in the United States arms forces in a recent radio interview that’s making waves.

Speaking with BBC Radio 4 last week, Gorka explained that Trump’s decision is the correct one because the purpose of a standing military force is not to be a “microcosm of civilian society.”

“The military is not a microcosm of civilian society. They are not there to reflect America. They are there to kill people and blow stuff up. They are not there to be socially engineered,” Gorka said.

“We want people who are transgender to live happy lives, but we want unit cohesion and we want combat effectiveness,” he added.

Instead, Gorka urged people to help transgender people live well in society, citing the high suicide-attempt among transgender people.

“We need to help those people,” Gorka said. “We don’t need to try and force them into the hierarchical military environment where they are under the upmost pressure to kill or be killed. And that is why the president is doing this out of the warmth of his consideration for this population.”

Gorka later doubled down on Twitter, writing on the social media platform that the Trump administration will “refuse to treat the American military as an ideological petri dish.”

He added that the “Obama-era social engineering is over.”

Trump announced the controversial ban via his personal Twitter account on Wednesday, where he said the military “cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail.”

Incoming White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders later maintained that the purpose of the ban was to maintain military readiness, unit cohesion and to properly manage Pentagon resources.
