Megyn Kelly said she left Fox News because of President Trump

Days before Megyn Kelly’s morning show debuts on NBC, she revealed that President Donald Trump influenced her decision to leave the Fox network after working there for 12 years.

In an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, Kelly discussed how President Trump played a role in her decision to leave the network.

“Donald Trump has a way of clarifying one’s life choices,” Kelly said. “Just as I was sort of wondering if this is where I wanted to be and how I wanted to live, the universe came and shone a light and it was clear to me what I wanted to do.”

“This wasn’t the life I wanted,” she said. “It was just a clarification and an affirmation that I did not want to live like this.”

Kelly told DeGeneres that she was “never a political person” and said that she just “wanted to cover the news.”

In the interview, DeGeneres asked her if she would have Trump on her new show, Kelly replied, “Definitely. I mean, I would not say no to the sitting president of the United States.”

Kelly then asked DeGeneres if she would have Trump on her show.

“I would not have him on the show. He is who he is and he gets enough attention and he has his Twitter account and he has ways to get his message across.”

“There’s nothing I’m going to say to him that’s going to change him and I don’t want to give him a platform, because it just validates him,” DeGeneres added.

Kelly has had a tumultuous relationship with the president since the first Republican presidential debate where the then-Republican candidate implied that Kelly was asking him tough debate questions because she was on her period.

A few months later Kelly discussed the incident with ABC News.

“It was bizarre because I became the story. He was so very focused on me that I became the story, and you know, you never want to be the story when you’re a newsperson,” she said. “You want to be covering the story, so it was like an ‘Alice Through the Looking Glass’ experience.”
