Police have identified the woman they say was with the Las Vegas shooter just days before last Sunday’s massacre, adding another twist to the profile of an already confusing criminal.

Who is she?

As authorities continue to piece together the months leading up to 64-year-old Stephen Paddock opening fire on a crowd at a country music festival, new bits of information continue to surface. Over the last day or two, police have been searching for a woman seen with Paddock just days prior to the shooting.

The woman was not Paddock’s live-in girlfriend, Marilou Danley, who was out of the country at the time of and around the shooting. But now the woman has been identified.

According to KABC-TV, police have said the woman is a prostitute. Police did not release the woman’s identity.

Was the woman an accomplice?

Because of how elaborate Paddock’s crime was, authorities believe he may have had help in the days leading up to the shooting. KABC reports that some of the ammunition found in Paddock’s possession was bought under someone else’s name. However, it’s not immediately clear who that person is.

Despite the belief that someone may have aided Paddock before the crime, police believe he was the sole shooter.

Any other new leads?

Police say they are investigating hundreds of leads to fully understand who Paddock was and why he chose to massacre innocent people.

They also said this week that he and Danley were frequent travelers and made stops in the Middle East in recent years on cruises. It’s not clear if there is any connection between those trips and the fact that the Islamic State has taken responsibility for the crime. Police maintain their belief that the shooting was not an act of Islamic terrorism.
