“Their Censorship Is Profoundly Damaging”: YouTube & Google Hit With Constitutional Claim

It won’t exactly come as a shock to most that Google and YouTube are being accused of discrimination and bias. The left-leaning companies are being sued by PargerU, an online educational video site. Dennis Prager, founder and namesake filed the complaint Monday stating that;

“Their censorship is profoundly damaging because Google and YouTube own and control the largest forum for public participation in video-based speech in not only California, but the United States, and the world.”

PragerU has been censored multiple times by YouTube, which is now owned by Google. The videos that were restricted are not what most would consider controversial or offensive. This leads to the conclusion that this is a discrimination case since they are more conservative than liberal. Some of the videos targeted included;

  • “Why America Must Lead.”
  • “The Ten Commandments: Do Not Murder.”
  • “Why Did America Fight the Korean War.”
  • “The World’s Most Persecuted Minority: Christians.”

Mike Rowe, a TV host-turned spokesman, did a video with PragerU called “Don’t Follow Your Passion,” that was banned. He was shocked;

“Is it possible that YouTube has determined that the IDEAS expressed in my speech are inappropriate for people under 18 – The precise audience that most needs to hear this message? The answer appears to be yes.”

Prager agrees that is exactly what is happening;

“Watch any one of our videos and you’ll immediately realize that Google/YouTube censorship is entirely ideologically driven. For the record, our videos are presented by some of the finest minds in the Western world, including four Pulitzer Prize winners, former prime ministers, and professors from the most prestigious universities in America. They are engaging in an arbitrary and capricious use of their ‘restricted mode’ and ‘demonetization’ to restrict non-left political thought.”

PragerU will be faced with the task of establishing the Google and YouTube are public forums. If they can accomplish this, their lawsuit stands a chance and conservative censorship will take a massive blow.
