Former interim Democratic National Committee chairwoman Donna Brazile is firing back at former Hillary Clinton campaign staffers after the staffers lashed out at Brazile for statements she made in her new book.
What has Brazile revealed?
Some of the biggest revelations to come from Brazile’s book are that she claimed the Clinton campaign and DNC colluded to “rig” the primaries against Clinton’s main opponent, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), the candidate with the clear momentum in the Democratic Party in 2016.
Brazile also revealed an agreement between the Clinton campaign and DNC, made just four months into Clinton’s campaign, that essentially gave top Clinton staffers control of the DNC. Brazile also said she considered removing Clinton as the Democratic nominee after a fainting spell last September.
What did the staffers say?
Nearly 100 Clinton campaign staffers — 94 to be exact — fired back at Brazile in a signed letter.
“We were shocked to learn the news that Donna Brazile actively considered overturning the will of the Democratic voters by attempting to replace Hillary Clinton,” they wrote.
“It is particularly troubling and puzzling that she would seemingly buy into false Russian-fueled propaganda, spread by both the Russians and our opponent, about our candidate’s health,” the group added. “Donna came in to take over the DNC at a very difficult time. We were grateful to her for doing so. She is a longtime friend and colleague of many of us and has been an important leader in our party. But we do not recognize the campaign she portrays in the book.”
The group said finally:
Finally, we are pretty tired of people who were not part of our campaign telling the world what it was like to be on the inside of our campaign and how we felt about it. We loved our candidate and each other and it remains our honor to have been part of the effort to make Hillary Clinton the 45th President of the United States.
How did Brazile respond?
Brazile responded to her critics Sunday morning on ABC’s “This Week.” Her comments came in response to a question from host George Stephanopoulos.
Brazile said: “For those who are telling me to shut up…you know what I tell them, ‘Go to hell.’ I’m going to tell my story.”
“Because this is a story of a young girl who started in American politics at the age of 9 and continues to fight each and every week of her life,” she added. “I say ‘Go to hell,’ because why am I supposed to be the only person that is unable to tell my story.”
For what it’s worth, Brazile, later in the interview, retracted her claim that the Clinton campaign rigged the primaries.
Brazile’s book, titled, “Hacks: The Inside Story of the Break-ins and Breakdowns That Put Donald Trump in the White House,” will be released on Tuesday.
