Something jumped out of the freezer at Manhattan’s Sarabeth’s Restaurant on Sunday morning: a man who rushed out into the kitchen and tried to attack employees with a knife.
At roughly 11 a.m., according to ABC 7, when employees opened the door of the walk-in freezer, the 54-year-old man, who hailed from Arizona, leaped out. CBS New York reported, “After being discovered, the man picked up a kitchen knife and yelled ‘away Satan’ before attacking employees, who were able to disarm him and wrestle him to the ground.”
The man apparently suffered a heart attack and was transported to St Luke’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Loris Sanchez, manager of the nearby Mediterranean restaurant Vai, told the New York Post, “I’m surprised he made it past the workers. What are you doing in there? Just crazy . . . Only in New York. Maybe the guy was trying to cool down. In this heat, I don’t blame him.”
