Rubio: If There Were Evidence of Collusion, ‘I Guarantee It Would Have Been Leaked by Now’

CNSNews.com) – Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) said on Sunday it’s up to Donald Trump’s lawyers to decide if the president should sit down with Special Counsel Robert Mueller, but Rubio — a member of the Senate intelligence committee — said he thinks it’s in Trump’s “best interest” to let the investigation run its course.

He was interviewed by Chris Wallace on “Fox News Sunday”:

My position based on everything I know about this case is the following: I believe it’s in the best interest of the president and of the United States of America and the American people for that investigation to run the course for all the truth to come out, and for — I think it’s the best thing that could happen for him, and I think it’s the best thing that could happen for the country.

Obviously, he is annoyed by that investigation continuing to go on because it’s about him, and he believes and has said repeatedly and emphatically that he did not collude with the Russians.

I’m limited to what I can say because the Senate is still doing our investigation, but I am comfortable in saying this, if there was evidence, strong evidence of collusion, I guarantee it would have been leaked by now, but let’s wait for the process to play itself out and I think that’s what should happen. Mueller should continue. He should finish his work and the truth should come out, and I think that’s in the best interest of everyone, including the president.

Rubio noted that “there are plenty of innocent people whose lawyers tell them do not sit down with a prosecutor and answer questions. So, I don’t want to prejudge this or somehow imply that by not sitting down, he’s guilty of something.”

Trump referred to the Special Counsel’s investigation in three tweets on Sunday, as follows:

— “Too bad a large portion of the Media refuses to report the lies and corruption having to do with the Rigged Witch Hunt – but that is why we call them FAKE NEWS!”

— “…Why aren’t Mueller and the 17 Angry Democrats looking at the meetings concerning the Fake Dossier and all of the lying that went on in the FBI and DOJ? This is the most one sided Witch Hunt in the history of our country. Fortunately, the facts are all coming out, and fast!”

— “Fake News reporting, a complete fabrication, that I am concerned about the meeting my wonderful son, Donald, had in Trump Tower. This was a meeting to get information on an opponent, totally legal and done all the time in politics – and it went nowhere. I did not know about it!”
