“They go low, we go high”
Florida Democratic Rep. Alcee Hastings joked about President Trump dying during a rally in the sunshine state yesterday.
Speaking at an event in Sunshine, Fla., Hastings repeated a joke he said he heard from Ari Silver, the son of former Florida state legislator Barry Silver.
“I will tell you one joke,” Hastings said. “Do you know the difference between a crisis and a catastrophe?”
“‘A crisis is if Donald Trump falls into the Potomac River and can’t swim,’” Hastings said, before adding, “‘And a catastrophe is anybody saves his ass.’”
The audience reacted by exploding into laughter and applause.
The joke is yet another illustration of how Democrats, while simultaneously accusing Trump of lowering the political tone, often engage in incendiary rhetoric.
Some respondents on Twitter were not impressed.
“How is this OK?..why are DEMS so filled with hate..had someone said this about Obama, the left would be up in as a calling this someone a racist,” said one user.
“Says the impeached former judge. Does he even recognize his own hypocrisy?” added another.
