FEC records show that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s campaign used Uber for transportation despite her having a history of bashing Uber for being unregulated.

According to Fox News, Ocasio-Cortez’s campaign spent $4,000 on 160 Uber rides in California between April and late June.

Ocasio-Cortez posted a statement on Twitter in March in which she claimed: “Yellow cab drivers are in financial ruin due to the unregulated expansion of Uber.” She complained that the cab industry which once provided a “living wage job now pays under minimum.”

The tweet came after the suicide of Nicanor Ochisor, a taxi driver who had financial struggles due to the decline of the cab industry and the rise of Uber as a cheaper alternative.

“NYC’s fourth driver suicide,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted.

NYC’s fourth driver suicide. Yellow cab drivers are in financial ruin due to the unregulated expansion of Uber. What was a living wage job now pays under minimum.

We need:
– to call Uber drivers what they are: EMPLOYEES, not contractors
– Fed jobs guarantee
– Prep for automation https://t.co/FjfapJV2ni

In New York, Ocasio-Cortez’s campaign has spent $2,500 on more than 90 rides with the Uber alternative, Juno, that originally differentiated itself as paying its drivers better than Uber and giving drivers the option to accumulate the company’s stock before being bought out and scrapping its stock program.

The data for July and August is not yet available.

Recently, a restaurant that Ocasio-Cortez worked at also shut down, partially due to increasing the minimum wage for workers, a policy that she supports.
