On Wednesday, a photo of one of the potentially explosive devices mailed to a prominent Democrat began circulating online after CNN first obtained the image. Quickly, speculation grew over what appeared to be an image of the Islamic State’s flag on the device.

Twitter users remarked on a so-called “ISIS flag” after CNN first posted an imagine of a package addressed to former CIA Director John Brennan:

However, according to a report from NBC News, the sticker on the device is not of the ISIS flag, but a parody of the flag popularized in 2014.

“A senior law enforcement official said that the image contained on the Brennan device that appears to be an ISIS flag is in fact a mocking parody of it. The official confirmed that the words ‘Get ‘Er Done’ were on the device,” says the NBC report.

“So apparently the sticker on the bombs said ‘Git Er Done’ in a faux ISIS font with silhouetted mudflap ladies? What the hell,” wrote MSNBC host Chris Hayes in a tweet Wednesday evening.

The image features silhouettes of three women and says “Get ‘Er Done” — a catchphrase popularized by comedian Larry the Cable Guy — inside a white circle.

NBC claims the meme was first popularized on World News Bureau in an article titled, “ISIS Vows Retribution for Counterfeit Flags.”

On Thursday, World News Bureau addressed the site’s alleged connection to the sticker found on the bomb addressed to Mr. Brennan.

“Two online news sites, including this one, have been tied to at least one of the ‘bombs’ delivered to Democrat politicians and liberal celebrities,” reads the site. “NBC’s Ben Collins reported yesterday and today that a parody of an ISIS flag originally posted on the right-wing news sites World News Bureau and Big Hairy News was wrapped around at least one explosive device sent to former CIA head, John Brennan.”

Scooter Van Neuter, serving as editor-in-chief to both sites, said he was “angry and saddened” by the use of the meme and claimed the person behind the device is a “liberal sicko” who should receive the death penalty.

“I saw the image of my flag wrapped around the bomb and I am angry and saddened. The liberal sicko who defaced it with the photo of that clueless retard, John Brennan, deserves nothing less than the death penalty,” Van Neuter said in a statement.

As reported by The Daily Wire on Thursday, law enforcement officers confirmed to NBC News that some of the devices mailed to prominent Democrats were not capable of exploding.

“Some of the 10 suspected mail bombs addressed to high-profile Democrats and others over the last few days were flawed and not capable of exploding, while others have yet to be fully analyzed,” reports NBC, adding, “In some cases, the flaws were substantial. In others, more subtle.”
