‘The contrast couldn’t be more stark between the Democrats and the Republicans on this issue…’

(Kaylee McGhee, Liberty Headlines) The chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee said Thursday that the approaching caravan of Honduran migrants is a “leftist” political stunt that could potentially help the Republicans keep the majority in the upcoming midterm elections.

In an interview with Fox News’s “America’s Newsroom,” Rep. Michael McCaul of Texas, a Republican, said the vast majority of Americans don’t want thousands of migrants flooding the U.S.’s borders.

“I think it’s going to help Republicans in the midterms, I think it’s going to help us keep the majority,” McCaul said. “Because most Americans don’t want lawlessness, they don’t want chaos, they don’t want 7,000 people — we don’t even know who they are — coming into the country and then getting released in 20 days.”

President Trump said he may deploy more than 15,000 U.S. soldiers to the border to support border patrol and the National Guard, and McCaul said he hopes this “show of force” will deter the caravan from trying to gain access to the U.S. At least 5,200 troops have already been sent.

“This is different than anything we’ve seen before. And we don’t know what’s going to happen when they show up,” McCaul said. “It’s going to be a clash, it’s going to be very dramatic, but we hope that the sign of showing force will deter the caravan from setting foot in the United States, because if and when they do, our broken immigration laws will give them protections, and I think most Americans don’t want to see that.”

McCaul said Trump is right to accuse the Democrats of advocating for open borders and immigrant caravans.

“The contrast couldn’t be more stark between the Democrats and the Republicans on this issue,” he said. “I think the president is absolutely correct that they are for open borders, we are for securing the border; we’re for changing the legal loopholes, they are not; they will welcome the caravan in.

“This is a leftist opposition group in Honduras that orchestrated this whole caravan stunt to begin with. And it is a stunt. It’s a political statement and stunt to try and get into the United States, hope the Democrats win the midterms, hope they can stay in the United States and become citizens.”
