During Friday’s edition of Real Time With Bill Maher, the eponymous host spoke with comic Sarah Silverman, who recently received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Commenting on her achievement, Silverman remarked “In a time…where anti-Semitic crime is up 57 percent since this douche bag has taken office, it is not lost on me that I am very lucky that I get a star, and don’t have to sew it on my clothes,” a reference to the Star of David sewn on the clothes of Jews in Nazi concentration camps. .

Silverman’s sick and distasteful remark appeared to catch Maher off guard, based on his facial expressions. However, the audience erupted in applause, leading Maher to conclude that “they love Sarah Silverman humor.”

The discussion turned to Silverman’s show, I Love You, America, where she goes out and talks to people “who are outside of our little bubble here in Hipsterville,” as Maher put it. Maher himself appeared on the most recent episode of her show, in seeming contradiction to its supposed mission of connecting to people outside of “Hipsterville.” As the guest of honor on Silverman’s Hulu show, Maher described President Trump as “the worst human,” while Silverman had equally harsh words to describe the President, calling him “human garbage to the core.”

Maher then asked her if she was changing any minds in her travels outside of “Hipsterville,” to which she replied “probably not. But I’m changing mine, I mean, not politically, not ideologically, but you do realize there is a difference between the liars and the lied to.” Maher asked if the people she spoke to on her show realized that; to which she replied, “No, of course not. They don’t know they are lied to. It’s like cults. Cults don’t know they’re cults.”

Silverman’s comparison of President Trump’s supporters to a cult should not come as a surprise to anyone who watches her show, where she makes her contempt for President Trump and his supporters perfectly clear. She has referred to the Commander-in-chief as a “f***ing crappy President” and once claimed that he had gone “full Hitler” because he described himself as a nationalist. Considering the fact that Maher has also attempted to equate President Trump with Hitler, perhaps Silverman can fill in for Maher on Real Time one of these days. The dynamic duo appears to have a lot in common; they both see Republicans and President Trump as the greatest threat to American democracy.

Silverman has also taken many shots at Christians on her program, accusing them of using their religion as a “shroud” for bigotry in addition to portraying Jesus Christ as a pansexual who swears and parrots left-wing talking points. At least she didn’t actually sink so low as to actually portray herself having sex with God.  Oh wait, she already did; a decade earlier on her now-cancelled Comedy Central program.

Based on the examples listed above and countless other examples, Silverman might as well call her show “I Hate You, America.” On the other hand, maybe Maher has dibs on that title; after all, he once described Trump supporters as “stupid and racist.”
