On Monday evening, Eric Trump tweeted about the alleged “utter disrespect” George Conway publicly shows his wife, White House counselor Kellyanne Conway.
“Of all the ugliness in politics, the utter disrespect George Conway shows toward his wife, her career, place of work, and everything she has fought SO hard to achieve, might top them all,” wrote the second-eldest Trump son.
Eric Trump tagged Kellyanne Conway’s Twitter account, adding, “[Kellyanne] is great person and frankly his actions are horrible.”
George Conway has made headlines numerous times over his open disdain for President Donald Trump, the man his wife helped get into the White House, and the man his wife currently works for. His Twitter feed is replete with re-tweets of anti-Trump articles and commentary.
On Monday, for example, George Conway retweeted an ABC article titled, “Legal questions swirl around idea to offer $50 million penthouse to Putin in Trump Tower Moscow,” and a post from USA TODAY opinion, which reads in part, “Did Trump break a U.S. law? His fate could turn on whether he knew about a reported plan to give Putin a $50 million penthouse in Trump Tower Moscow.” He also notably quote-tweeted President Trump on Monday, citing obstruction of justice and witness tampering statutes:
Unsurprisingly, the anti-Trump media have been quick to cover George Conway’s remarks and posts. As noted by The Hill, Kellyanne Conway acknowledged the obsessive coverage by changing her Twitter bio last month to read, “The ‘Kellyanne Conway’ in ‘Kellyanne Conway’s Husband’.”
But Eric Trump is not the only one to call Mr. Conway’s actions “disrespectful” toward his wife. In fact, during a Washington Post interview, it was Kellyanne herself who called her husband’s Trump-slams “disrespectful.” The Daily Wire reports:
“I think it’s disrespectful,” Kellyanne Conway stated. “I think it disrespects his wife.”
Conway told the Post’s Ben Terris that her husband’s open criticism of the president allows for “the implication that they are pitted against each other bothers their children.” Plus, she said, both she and the president find the tweeting “impolite.”
The White House counselor added, “I feel there’s a part of him that thinks I chose Donald Trump over him. Which is ridiculous. One is my work and one is my marriage.”
Mrs. Conway has yet to respond to the Eric Trump tweet, which garnered over 14,000 “likes” and 8,000 replies in a little over an hour. But the Internet, as one might expect, had some thoughts on the matter. Here are some of the reactions to the bold tweet:
