During the two-year period, Pelosi amassed $2,100,744.59 in costs to the military.
(Joshua Paladino, Liberty Headlines) House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-California, loves to travel in U.S. Air Force aircrafts, spending thousands on booze and food—all at taxpayers’ expense, according to documents from Judicial Watch.
Pelosi’s luxurious trips came under renewed scrutiny after President Donald Trump on Thursday cancelled her trips to Afghanistan, Brussels, and Egypt due to the government shutdown.
Trump’s letter to Pelosi came after she, citing security concerns, asked the president to postpone the State of the Union address until after the government reopens.
Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton caught Pelosi for her oligarchical use of public funds almost a decade ago.
“Speaker Pelosi may have set a frequent flyer record for taxpayer-financed luxury jet travel,” Fitton wrote in 2010.
Records from the U.S. Air Force found that Pelosi logged more than 206,000 miles and nearly 430 flights hours in a period of less than a year and a half, between March 2009 and June 2010.
These records emerged, which showed Pelosi took 85 trips during the time period, from a 2009 Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request that Judicial Watch filed.
Each flight cost taxpayers approximately $28,200, on average, and the expenses weren’t all for official public business.
Pelosi took 103 congressional delegations throughout the world, costing an average of $228,563.33 each trip. Her family tagged along on 31 of the trips.
During the two-year period, Pelosi amassed $2,100,744.59 in costs to the military. On these trips, Pelosi spent more than $100,000 on food and alcohol.
The U.S. Air Force detailed how inconsiderate Pelosi was about her travel with them.
An official at the Department of Defense lamented that Pelosi and her team have “a history of canceling many of their past requests,” causing inconvenience for everyone involved, Judicial Watch reported.
“We have…folks prepping the jets and crews driving in (not a short drive for some), cooking meals and preflighting the jets etc.,” the DOD official said.
Another Defense Department official questioned Pelosi’s propensity to schedule a flight every weekend.
“Any chance of politely querying [Pelosi’s team] if they really intend to do all of these or are they just picking every weekend?” the official asked. “There’s no need to block every weekend ‘just in case.’”
