In an interview this week, socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) lied about remarks she made in July 2018 during an interview on PBS’s “Firing Line With Margaret Hoover,” falsely claiming that the video clip of her saying that Israel was occupying Palestine was “doctored.”
Ocasio-Cortez made the false claim during an interview with The Intercept, saying that the video “got doctored and then the doctored video was the one that ended up on Fox News and then like everyone just sees the doctored version instead of the actual exchange.”
Ocasio-Cortez’s comments garnered national attention after The Daily Wire reported on her anti-Israel remarks on July 15. The report contained the following video, which was viewed millions of times:
Within two days, Ocasio-Cortez’s comments were picked up by nearly every major news publication including The Drudge Report, Fox News, CNN, Newsweek, The Free Beacon, The Daily Caller, National Review, and many others.
Nine days later, on July 24, CRTV’s Allie Beth Stuckey released a hilarious and blatantly obvious parody video from Ocasio-Cortez’s interview on Firing Line. Stuckey’s parody video did not even contain the portion of the interview where Ocasio-Cortez made her remarks about Israel and Palestine.
Ocasio-Cortez responded by doing what she does best, playing the victim card.
“Republicans are so scared of me that they’re faking videos and presenting them as real on Facebook because they can’t deal with reality anymore,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted. “Here’s one bonafide truth: Election Day is November 6th.”
The nine-day gap between The Daily Wire’s original report on Ocasio-Cortez and Stuckey’s parody video is key. The news cycle was saturated with Ocasio-Cortez’s original, undoctored comments.
It’s also important to note that Ocasio-Cortez never accused Firing Line of “doctoring” the original interview. She accused “Republicans” of “faking videos and presenting them as real,” which also was not true, after the Stuckey parody video.
Her claim that “everyone” just saw “the doctored version instead of the actual exchange” is completely false and ignores the timeline of events and the overwhelming amount of media coverage on her remarks.
