President Donald Trump criticized the late Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) in a tweet Saturday afternoon citing a quote from former Independent Counsel Ken Starr (made on Fox & Friends Saturday morning) about reports McCain and a top aide spread the bogus Russian dossier around official Washington in late 2016. Trump also slammed McCain for his “thumbs down” vote against Obamacare repeal in 2017, saying that was much worse than spreading the dossier. McCain died from brain cancer on August 25, 2018 at 81. McCain’s vote was a bitter betrayal of voters who believed years of Republican promises to repeal Obamacare.

AP video via YouTube: “The US Senate rejected a Republican measure to repeal portions of former President Obama’s health care reform law. Republicans John McCain, Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins joined the Democrats in voting down the measure, 49-51. (July 28, 2017)”

(Note: A tie vote of 50-50, had McCain the other way, would have been broken by Vice President Mike Pence. McCain rejected last second appeals from President Trump (via phone) and Vice President Pence (in person)  right before his vote.)

Trump wrote of McCain on Saturday, “Spreading the fake and totally discredited Dossier “is unfortunately a very dark stain against John McCain.” Ken Starr, Former Independent Counsel. He had far worse “stains” than this, including thumbs down on repeal and replace after years of campaigning to repeal and replace!”

Meghan McCain slammed President Trump during her eulogy for her father, September 1, 2018.

Meghan McCain replied late Saturday afternoon, “No one will ever love you the way they loved my father…. I wish I had been given more Saturday’s with him. Maybe spend yours with your family instead of on twitter obsessing over mine?”
