Outside of “Make America Great Again,” there are three words Trump supporters (and the nation) became very fond of in 2016.
“Lock Her Up” was the rallying cry for conservatives during the last presidential election, and the phrase still seems to pop up from time to time.
One CNN host is now saying “lock her up” is “hate speech.”
Also, it should be banned.
From Daily Wire:
During an interview with former FBI Director James Comey on Tuesday, CNN host Christiane Amanpour said that Trump supporters chanting “lock her up” qualified as “hate speech” and went as far as suggesting that the government should have banned people from saying it.
The controversial remarks came when Amanpour began asking Comey about the FBI’s criminal investigation into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
“Of course, ‘Lock her up’ was a feature of the 2016 Trump campaign,” Amanpour said. “Do you, in retrospect, wish that people like yourself, the head of the FBI, I mean, the people in charge of law and order – had shut down that language? That it was dangerous potentially, that it could have created violence, that it’s kind of hate speech? Should that have been allowed?”
James Comey responded, “That’s not a role for government to play. The beauty of this country is, people can say what they want, even if it’s misleading and it’s demagoguery. The people who should have shut it down were Republicans who understand the rule of law and the values that they claim to stand for. Shame on them, but it wasn’t a role for government to play.”
It would seem as if Amanpour doesn’t understand the whole point of the First Amendment. If she did, she’d know it was put in place to protect speech others may find offensive.
During a recent CNN town hall featuring 2020 Democrat presidential candidate Cory Booker, host Don Lemon was caught on a hot mic.
He told Cory he did a “nice job.”
From Free Beacon:
Booker wrapped up an answer to a question about his opposition to the Electoral College and called for higher voter turnout, saying it made democracy better.
“Cynical Republicans are trying to make it harder and harder for people to vote, especially African Americans,” Booker said. “The cure for these anti-democratic problems is not to surrender to cynicism about the system. It’s to get up, get involved, get engaged, and let’s change it together.”
“I can see that you’re warmed up. You’ve been out on the campaign trail,” Lemon said, telling viewers they would be back with Booker after the break.
“Nice job. Nice job,” Lemon could be heard telling Booker as the camera panned away, shaking his hand.
Silly, silly CNN!
Forgive them, for they know not what they do.
Or do they?
