In a stunning move, both the House and Senate approved bills that would prohibit sanctuary cities in the state of Florida.

Although it may seem strange, in Florida, the state has passed a bill forcing its cities to obey federal law.

In the United States of America, democrats have gained so much control—in the media and through trickery—that it’s necessary for a state to pass a law that makes refusing to adhere to federal statutes a crime.

Think about that.

Democrats have always been the party of defying federal law—Emancipation, Desegregation, etc. Most of this writer’s generation at least remembers George Wallace standing in the doorway to prevent black students from enrolling in the University of Alabama. And, democrats continue that ideology today, defying federal immigration laws.

Today, democrats say that federal immigration laws are wrong (like they did with the Civil Rights movement) and say certain cities will not cooperate with federal enforcement.

But, in Florida, the legislature has moved to stop the defiance.

The Miami Herald reported:

After months embroiled in emotional testimony, protests, controversy and national news coverage, Sen. Joe Gruters’ version of a bill to ban “sanctuary cities” in Florida passed 22-18 in the Senate Friday. Sen. Anitere Flores of Miami was the only Republican to vote against the bill.

The Senate and the House, which passed its version of the bill Wednesday, still need to iron out differences in their proposals, particularly on a tougher stance taken by the House when it comes to penalties.

The House’s bill builds in a rule that local government employees or elected officials who permit sanctuary-city policies may be suspended or removed from office. The proposal also includes fines of up to $5,000 for each day that a sanctuary-city policy is in place.

Identical bills must pass both chambers before hitting the governor’s desk. In this case, differences will have to be negotiated and “bounced back” between the House and Senate until they come to an agreement on a piece of legislation.

While the House has tried to pass a similar ban the last four years, it died in the Senate the last time around. But Gov. Ron DeSantis has made “sanctuary cities” a key talking point from the start of his campaign to swearing in, an element Gruters says was key.

“That’s why this is moving forward,” Gruters said earlier this week. “It has opened up some doors that weren’t previously available.”

The bill creates rules relating to federal immigration enforcement by prohibiting “sanctuary” policies and requiring state and local law enforcement to comply with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Under this bill, local law enforcement would be required to honor federal law enforcement’s request for an “immigration detainer,” meaning a request that another law enforcement agency detain a person based on probable cause to believe that the person is a “removable alien” under federal immigration law. The bill would essentially make the “request” a requirement.

Florida is part of a recent trend of states pushing such policies. Arkansas recently banned “sanctuary cities,” and Republicans in Michigan, Montana and North Carolina are pushing similar bans.

It is sickening that democrats refuse to adhere to the law of the United States.

The American Civil Liberties Union was so upset by the House passage, that it issued a ‘travel alert’ against the state.

The bill that prohibits “sanctuary policies” and requires “governmental agencies, and law enforcement agencies to use best efforts to support the enforcement of federal immigration law” was passed in the House with a margin of 69-47, according to NBC News.

Why aren’t more people astonished by this statement? What would our country look like today if news outlets reported the same about desegregation?

It is sick that Americans are reduced to having to pass laws forcing democrats to adhere to federal regulations.
