Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) lashed out at congressional Democrats Wednesday, accusing them of “undermining our democracy and helping Vladimir Putin.”
Cheney, a member of the GOP leadership in the House of Representatives as House Republican Conference Chair, was flanked by Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) in her broadside against the House Judiciary Committee led by Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-NY)
“If you look at what we have from the Mueller report, multiple Russians have been indicted,” Cheney said, “for attempting to influence, to undermine our democratic processes and the Democrats on the Judiciary Committee are doing exactly what Vladimir Putin would do if he could.”
On Wednesday, President Donald Trump asserted executive privilege over Robert Mueller‘s entire unredacted report in response to House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler proposing a vote to hold Attorney General William Barr in contempt of Congress.
“Faced with Chairman Nadler’s blatant abuse of power, and at the attorney general’s request, the president has no other option than to make a protective assertion of executive privilege,” White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced in a statement today.
The committee met Wednesday to debate the matter.
