House Speaker Nancy Pelosi may have the most powerful position in the House of Representatives, but apparently Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is calling the shots.

While speaking with CNN, Ocasio-Cortez overruled Pelosi’s position of waiting to begin impeachment and said Democrats need to push ahead with impeachment right now.

Ocasio-Cortez also called out Pelosi for her lack of dedication to the cause of impeaching Trump.

When asked if she was satisfied with Pelosi’s approach of waiting until there is irrefutable firm evidence, Ocasio-Cortez said she’s not even close to pleased with Pelosi’s position.

“I think that an impeachment inquiry is right on our doorstep,” Ocasio-Cortez said, adding she is “concerned” about where the line to begin proceedings has been drawn.

“If now isn’t the time … what is the bar, what is the line that we’re waiting to be crossed for an impeachment inquiry, and so far it doesn’t seem like there is one,” Ocasio-Cortez said.

“And so without a clear boundary, it seems as though we’re kind of sitting on our hands,” she added. “So, if now isn’t the time, then I think a lot of folks would like to know, when is the time?”

Ocasio-Cortez’s comments came on the heels of Pelosi admitting earlier this week that Democrats are “not even close” to backing an impeachment push against Trump.

“It’s not even close in our caucus,” Pelosi told CNN’s Manu Raju at an event.

“Why are we speculating on hypotheticals?” she asked. “What we’re doing is winning in court. We won a victory getting the documents from the Justice Department today for fear of further going to court.”

“There is nothing as divisive in our country, in my view, than impeachment,” Pelosi said Tuesday.

While Pelosi hasn’t endorsed impeachment, she has made several other controversial remarks about the president.

Pelosi told senior Democrats during a closed door meeting last week that she wants to see Trump “in prison.”

Pelosi is currently in a bind with her own party over whether to wait or try to impeach Trump before the 2020 election.

Late last month, Pelosi had a separate contentious closed-door meeting with Democratic leadership.

In this meeting, Pelosi reportedly told top Democrats that they were not ready to push impeachment and that they essentially needed to wait a little longer.

Pelosi may eventually cave and allow House Democrats to move ahead with impeachment proceedings, but she’s well-aware of the political ramifications of going down that path.

Which is why it’s incredibly bizarre to think Pelosi is telling people behind closed-doors that Trump should be “in prison.”

But more importantly, this is another reminder that despite what Pelosi says, apparently Ocasio-Cortez thinks she is running the Democrats and calling the shots.
