For sizable majorities of Americans, it’s no contest again this year: Jesus wins over Santa, and “Merry Christmas” beats “Happy Holidays.”
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 68% of American Adults believe Christmas should be more about Jesus Christ than about Santa Claus. Just 16% put the emphasis on Santa, while 15% are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)
The survey of 1,000 American Adults was conducted December 10-11, 2019 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.
