Texas Governor Greg Abbott is in the process of writing up an executive order for steps Texas businesses can take to re-open the economy.

“We will focus on protecting lives while restoring livelihoods. We can do both,” Abbott stated on Friday, April 10, 2020 during a press conference.

The governor said more details will be unveiled in the next week, but said he wants to roll out this plan strategically and safely to prevent the virus from spreading even further.

Abbott also shared the latest numbers for the Wuhan Virus pandemic. As of the afternoon of April 10, Texas has the following Wuhan Virus numbers:

  • 116,000 total Texans tested
  • 11,449 Texans tested positive
  • 1,532 Texans hospitalized
  • 221 Texans have died

“Every life lost is one too many,” Abbott said.

Unlike other state governments, Texas has taken a measured approach to the pandemic.

The virus is real but the impact it’s having is not as great as the media is making it out to be.

In sum, the response should not consist of trying to completely shut down the economy

Thankfully, Abbott has recognized that.
