BEIJING, China: Under new guidelines published on Tuesday, China’s Ministry of Education will incorporate “Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism With Chinese Characteristics for a New Era” into the nation’s educational curriculum, in a bid to “instil Marxist concepts” among Chinese youth.
President Xi Jinping’s “Thought on Socialism” will be taught from primary school level to higher education, with the aim of creating “resolve to listen to and follow the Party.”
According to the guidelines, new teaching materials must also “cultivate patriotic feelings.”
“Xi Jinping Thought” was formally enshrined in the country’s constitution in 2018.
President Xi, since becoming leader in 2012, has widened the influence of the Chinese Communist Party in all areas of society, including in the areas of business, education and culture.
In a speech in July marking the Communist Party’s centenary, Xi, whose personal power was reinforced after the abolition of presidential term limits, vowed to “enhance” the party’s leadership, uphold his own “core” leadership and further unify the Chinese people.
