Crimes involved multiple victims and spanned three Utah counties from 1990 to 2010. ‘We are pleading with the public and encourage victims, or individuals with knowledge of these crimes, to contact the Utah County Sheriff’s Office Special Victim’s Unit, so that they can be offered all the assistance possible.’

The Utah County sheriff’s office is asking the public for help investigating reports of ritualistic child sex abuse and child sex trafficking that spanned three Utah counties from 1990 to 2010.

The investigation involves multiple county and federal law enforcement agencies and has been ongoing since April 1, 2021, when multiple victims came forward describing similar incidents that happened in Utah, Sanpete and Juab counties.

On Tuesday, the Utah county sheriff’s office issued a press release asking for people with knowledge of crimes and more victims to come forward.

“We understand that there are individuals who have concerns for their safety and/or well-being, who have been silenced,” the department acknowledged.

Utah County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Sgt. Spencer Cannon detailed to KUTV what the department means by the term “ritualistic.”

“Ritualistic typically would involve a group of people an organized effort of abuse, trafficking, providing victims to each other,” Cannon described.

“We’re concerned about things that may have happened decades ago, but we’re also receiving information that leads us to believe things have happened more recently.”

Salt Lake City’s Fox13Now.com reports their investigation team “has learned some of the subjects of the investigation are high-profile Utahns,” though the sheriff’s office neither confirmed, nor denied the claims. https://www.youtube.com/embed/MsX1YmtAxOA

According to Fox13Now, one of the alleged co-conspirators was a Utah county therapist who had previously been convicted on sex crimes against young female family members.

“The Utah County Attorney’s Office dropped charges without prejudice, and the man was not convicted,” Fox13 reports.

Fox13Now’s Adam Herbets also spoke with a victim Brett Bluth, who described being sexually abused by a therapist he was introduced to through the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

“Hypnosis was a big part of (my treatment). He told me from the very beginning, that that was his main technique,” Bluth told Herbets. “(He) would say, ‘Do you want to be healed of your homosexuality, or not?’ and the answer was yes.”

Sgt. Cannon says they’re temporarily holding off on releasing names and criminal charges just yet, but that they will be soon forthcoming.

“Criminal charges, we believe it will get to that point, but we just haven’t gotten there yet,” Sgt. Cannon said. “The sooner the better. We don’t want to let anything sit longer than is necessary.”
