A family in Florida regrets purchasing an electric vehicle after learning the cost to replace its depleted battery is more than the car’s worth.
The Siwinski family thought they were doing something good for the environment when they purchased 17-year-old Avery her first vehicle, an electric 2014 Ford Focus.
However, within 6 months the car’s battery died, and Ford no longer produces replacement batteries.
When her grandfather looked into replacing the battery, Ford service technicians told them they could do it – for $14,000, plus installation fees.

The car was initially purchased by the Siwinskis for $11,000.
Adding insult to injury, the local Ford dealership said they’d take the car off their hands for a measly $500.
Now Avery’s grandpa, Ray, is warning other consumers that electric cars aren’t all they’re cracked up to be.
“If you’re buying a new one you have to realize there is no secondhand market out there, because the manufacturers aren’t supporting the cars,” Ray told WTSP 10 Tampa Bay.
The family’s problem comes as Biden Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg on Tuesday promoted electric vehicles, claiming they offset the pain people are experiencing at the pump.
$14K buys a lot of gas. I recommend getting the biggest vehicle with most powerful gas engine. Most can be converted to LNG for $2-3K if needed.
