Mitch McConnell confirmed today that he’s very close to negotiating a massive spending bill with Democrats ahead of the switchover to the new Congress that’s weeks away.
We reported on this a few weeks ago when conservative Senators Mike Lee, Ted Cruz, Rick Scott and Mike Braun sent McConnell a letter begging him not to go through with this.

But instead McConnell has continued trying to strike a deal with Democrats, undercutting both the will of the voters and the Republicans they elected to lead the House.
Here’s the news via The Hill:
:
Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said Tuesday that negotiators are “very close” to a deal on a year-end omnibus spending package and set a deadline of Dec. 22 for getting it done.
“I think we’re very close to getting an omnibus appropriations bill,” McConnell told reporters after the Tuesday Republican conference lunch.
McConnell said the top-line defense spending number will reflect the $858 billion National Defense Authorization Act, which the House passed last week.
McConnell ruled out the prospect of lawmakers returning to Washington after Christmas to finish the omnibus if it doesn’t pass by Thursday, Dec. 22.
Mark Levin responded to this report by saying “McConnell is cutting a massive spending deal with the lame duck Democrats before the House Republican majority is sworn in! He’s trying to bypass the more conservative GOP congressmen & defy last November’s voters. To my knowledge, this is the first time this has ever happened.”
