(Molly Bruns, Headline USA) Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, D-Mich., received uproarious applause after claiming pro-abortion laws are “just good economics” in her State of the State address on Wednesday.

Trending The New Earth phenomenon is making heads spin

Whitmer, who recently started her second term as governor, promised to repeal a 1931 state abortion ban with the help of the state’s Democrat-controlled legislature. She also vowed that abortion on demand, at any time, for any reason would be available in Michigan for many years to come.

According to Life News, Whitmer’s speech portrayed abortions as beneficial for the economy, for businesses and for women.

“Protecting these freedoms is the right thing to do, and it’s just good economics,” she claimed. “States with extreme laws are losing talent and investment because you know what? Bigotry is bad for business.”

Whitmer also promised that she would work for a “brighter future” for all Michigan residents—except, of course, the ones who are unborn.

“Let’s repeal our extreme 1931 law banning abortion,” she added. “Let’s repeal other dangerous laws prohibiting people from accessing reproductive healthcare or shaming them for seeking it in the first place.”

Under Michigan’s current laws, abortion is legal for any reason up to viability.

An estimated 30,000 babies are killed in abortions in Michigan every year. Over the past few years, the state’s mortality rate has surpassed the birth rate.

A pro-life organization known as Movement for a Better America released a study in 2018 estimating that the United States has a “cumulative GDP deficit of $62.6 trillion” as a result of the 61 million unborn babies.

The organization estimated that the deficit would reach $400 trillion by 2040 if abortions occur at the same rate.

Michigan’s abortion laws are among the most radical in the nation—except California and Vermont—allowing abortion at any time throughout the course of pregnancy, for any reason. Michigan law also mandates that taxpayers pay for abortions, and enables minors to get abortions without parental consent.
