Journalist Laura Loomer is blowing the whistle on the “shadow presidential campaign” of Ron DeSantis in which the Florida governor is touring the country, hitting crucial primary states, and apparently flouting Florida law in doing so.
DeSantis is running his shadow presidential campaign while it is illegal for state officials in Florida to run for “federal public office” while holding their position under the state’s “Resign to Run Law.” This law was put into place to ensure that Florida lawmakers would be responsive to the people they serve and not be allowed to cut and run on their constituents to pursue their own self-serving ambitions.

The text of the law, Florida Statutes Chapter 99.012 (4)(a), reads, “Any officer who qualifies for federal public office must resign from the office he or she presently holds if the terms, or any part thereof, run currently with each other.”
