A middle school art teacher is being investigated for allegedly sending a sexually explicit Snapchat video to a student.
Police in Aberdeen were contacted by officials of Aberdeen Middle School on Monday at about 8:36 a.m. about the video after a student brought it to their attention.
“He brought to the attention of the faculty that he received explicit, sexual material via Snapchat on a cellphone device,” Aberdeen Police Department spokesman Will Reiber said.
Police gathered evidence at the school and also ensured the safety of the students.

The school district sent a message to parents about the incident on Monday evening and confirmed that the video had been passed around to other students on the social media platform.
“We have been made aware of an inappropriate video that has circulated among our students via social media, specifically Snapchat. A thorough investigation has been initiated by school administrators and is ongoing with our SRO, and the Aberdeen Police Department,” read the statement.
“School officials encouraged parents to remind their children about the serious consequences of sharing inappropriate material on social media and to promote responsible usage,” the district said. “Parents and students were urged to report any concerning incidents to school staff, the SRO, or other trusted adults.”
The art teacher was placed on administrative leave, with pay, while police investigate the matter.
Police have not yet filed charges against the teacher, and they have not released the identities of either the student or the teacher.
