Joe Biden introduced a new gun control executive order on Tuesday and pledged that he will try to ban all semiautomatic rifles he calls “assault weapons.”
Biden announced his Executive Order in Monterrey, California after a mass shooting in the area during Lunar New Year festivities in January left 11 dead and 20 injured.
The EO claims it will increase the number of background checks to buy guns, promote the expansion of “red flag” gun laws,” and promote better and more secure firearms storage.
Biden on Tuesday also called for the total ban of so-called “assault weapons” and “high-capacity magazines,” meaning magazines that hold 30 rounds or more.
“I’m determined, once again, to ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. I led the fight to ban them in 1994. The ten years that law was in place, mass shootings went down,” Biden told the crowd.
