Police in Belgium have arrested a ‘young man’ suspected in a savage attack that left a bus driver hospitalized, according to reports.

The incident unfolded aboard a De Lijn bus on Friday in Eliksem, a village in municipality of Landen.

After two suspicious males boarded his bus, the driver decided to stop the vehicle and check their tickets.

At least one of the riders, an 18-year-old, had apparently walked on without paying, so the driver ordered him out of the vehicle.

“The boy and the driver got off the bus, but once outside, according to witnesses, the young man delivered two punches to the bus driver, who fell on his head on the ground,” Pal Nws reports.

“The 29-year-old bus driver suffered serious facial injuries and was taken to hospital.”

The assailant fled the scene but was pursued by witnesses and apprehended.

He reportedly admitted to attacking the driver when questioned by police and will now face criminal charges.
