In a recent revelation, a senior-level whistleblower accused the CIA of attempting to influence analysts’ conclusions regarding the origins of SARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic. The whistleblower alleges that the CIA tried incentivizing six analysts to change their stance on the virus’s origin. Specifically, they were encouraged to switch from believing the virus likely originated in a Wuhan laboratory to the theory that it had jumped from animals to humans.

The whistleblower’s claims came to light through a letter from House subcommittee leaders Brad Wenstrup and Mike Turner. According to the whistleblower, of the seven of the CIA’s Covid-19 Discovery Team members, six initially believed there was enough intelligence and scientific evidence to suggest that COVID-19 originated in a Wuhan lab. The seventh member, who held the most senior position, maintained the zoonosis theory.

Furthermore, the whistleblower contends that the six analysts who favored the lab origin theory were offered significant financial incentives to change their position. These analysts were experienced professionals with substantial scientific expertise.

Wenstrup and Turner have requested all relevant documents, communications, and payment information from the CIA’s Covid-19 Discovery Team by September 26th. They have also sought records of interactions between the CIA and other federal agencies, including the State Department, FBI, Department of Health and Human Services, and the Energy Department.

Additionally, former CIA Chief Operating Officer Andrew Makridis has been identified as a central figure in the COVID-19 investigation, and the House committee leaders have called for him to undergo a transcribed interview.

This revelation adds another layer of complexity to the ongoing debate over the origins of COVID-19. While the US Intelligence Community declassified a report suggesting “biosafety concerns” and “genetic engineering” in Wuhan, it did not definitively conclude that the virus was genetically engineered. The precise origins of the pandemic remain a subject of uncertainty and conflicting theories.

The whistleblower’s allegations raise questions about the integrity of the intelligence process and the pursuit of truth in understanding the pandemic’s origins. It is a development that warrants careful investigation and consideration in the broader global health and security context.
