Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced his recommendation to reestablish the Florida State Guard, which is an inactive state defense force that operated during WWII.
The FSG served as a stateside replacement for the Florida National Guard during their deployment abroad.
The state of Florida funded the FSG, so they weren’t bound by federal red tape and were available upon request of the governor.
Although the FSG was disbanded, Florida law allows the governor to maintain a Florida state defense force.
