More than 500 illegal aliens apprehended in one border sector during Fiscal Year 2021 claimed they were children when they were actually adults, according to reports.
El Paso Sector Border Patrol agents encountered nearly 23,000 unaccompanied minors between October 1, 2020, and September 30, 2021.Now that you’re intellectually ahead, stay physically ahead by visiting our store.
Additionally, they caught 559 adult aliens lying about their ages.
In the past six weeks, at least 55 more illegals have reportedly been busted falsely passing themselves off as underage, indicating FY 2022 could see even higher numbers than the previous year in El Paso sector.
Border Patrol spokesman Carlos Rivera told Border Report seasoned agents are usually able to detect fraudulent documents and identify fake ‘kids’ by analyzing behavior, physical characteristics, and body language.
“You see a lot of documents,” Rivera said.
“Children act like children. Kids act like kids,” he explained. “So when you introduce adults, they have different mannerisms. They don’t belong.”
Illegal aliens who provide false statements to law enforcement officials may face additional criminal charges.
“El Paso Sector agents, working jointly with HSI and the U.S. Attorney’s Office, are working tirelessly to identify and prosecute adult migrants entering the United States illegally who fraudulently claim to be an unaccompanied child or juvenile,” asserted El Paso Sector Border Patrol Chief Gloria I. Chavez.
“Our teamwork with our U.S. partners and collaboration with the Foreign Consulates in our border region is essential in keeping other migrants in our temporary custody safe and our communities even safer.”
Border agents encountered nearly 194,000 illegal aliens in El Paso Sector during Fiscal Year 2021.
