Three more attorneys representing Hunter Biden have filed a motion to withdraw from his ongoing case following a recent development. A Delaware judge dismissed two tax misdemeanors against Hunter Biden without prejudice at the request of the Department of Justice (DOJ) prosecutors. This move paves the way for the possibility of charging Biden in either Washington DC or the Central District of California. The DOJ’s request was granted by US District Judge Maryellen Noreika.
The three attorneys from Latham & Watkins LLP, namely Mrian C. McManus, Timothy H. McCarten, and Matthew S. Salerno, filed the motion to withdraw after the judge’s decision. The law firm Latham & Watkins had previously faced controversy when a staffer allegedly misrepresented her identity to the Clerk’s office, leading to concerns about political interference in the Hunter Biden investigation. Salerno attributed this incident to a “miscommunication.”

This marks the fifth instance of attorneys quitting Hunter Biden’s legal team. Joshua Levy quit in March, and Christopher Clark left recently due to the potential of being called as a witness in the case after plea negotiations fell through. The recent motion to withdraw doesn’t provide a specific reason for the departure.
Despite these changes, Hunter Biden will still be represented by Abbe Lowell of Winston & Strawn LLP and Richard I.G. Jones Jr. of Berger Harris LLP. These changes in legal representation come after a plea deal between Hunter Biden and the DOJ collapsed. The deal had raised objections from Judge Noreika due to the extent of immunity it would have granted Hunter Biden from future prosecution, even for unrelated crimes. With the departure of three more attorneys and the ongoing legal challenges, Hunter Biden’s legal situation continues to evolve.
