Yesterday, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki picked up her rhetorical hammer and sickle and announced to the world anyone who spreads “misinformation” (i.e. anything Democrats don’t like) should be banned from all social media platforms. The comment went viral, raising all kinds of eyebrows.
After all, what business does the White House have telling social media companies who to ban? And by what authority do Joe Biden and company get to decide what is or isn’t misinformation? Jen Psaki’s authoritarian demand was clearly another attempt to subvert the First Amendment by proxy.
Of course, it only took a few hours for Psaki’s own past history of spreading disinformation, not just misinformation, to catch up with her.
Psaki and a range of other Democrat figures rushed to defend Hunter Biden in the waning days of the 2020 campaign, asserting that the incriminating laptop in question was actually “Russian disinformation.” As an aside, imagine going to bat and lying for a scumbag like Hunter Biden, but I digress.
In response to Democrat outcry, what did big tech do? They censored the Hunter Biden laptop story and banned The New York Post for breaking it. That’s the kind of power Psaki and her boss want to wield. It’s not about actually stopping misinformation, though; the government has no role in doing that, regardless. Rather, the authoritarianism is the point. These people want to rule your lives, right down to what you can and can’t say online. That they live in glass houses as they throw their stones isn’t a factor for them.
Of course, Psaki’s false claim about the Hunter Biden story is hardly the only example. We’ve seen disinformation flow from figures like Anthony Fauci on a regular basis. We’ve had the CDC lie about mask efficacy, even after vaccination. We’ve had Joe Biden claim that voter ID laws are the worst threat to our “democracy” since the Civil War. You know, because actual Jim Crow wasn’t nearly as bad or something.
No single entity has spread more misinformation and disinformation, in my view, in the last few years than Joe Biden and his cohorts. Psaki should probably consider that the next time she wants to lecture others on the topic. She won’t, but she should.
