Fundraising off Trump is not just a GOP thing

The First Lady Jill Biden blasted the former President Donald Trump at a ritzy Hollywood fundraiser on Friday, claiming that people have come up to her saying “I feel like I can breathe.”

Jill and Joe Biden were in Los Angeles on Friday to attend a fundraiser that was hosted by a Democratic mega-donor Haim Saban and his wife, Cheryl. The event was meant to raise money for the Democratic National Committee’s Democratic Grassroots Victory Fund, with tickets starting at $1,000 per person and going as high as $36,500.

While speaking at the fundraiser, Jill unsurprisingly used the January 6 Capitol riot to take a dig at Trump.

“If you think of what went on January 6, and if we were living with that kind of president today — it’s like you can’t even let your head go there,” Jill said. “And then once we were elected, people came up to me all the time, everywhere I went, and said, ‘Jill, I feel like I can breathe.’”

Later that same day, the Bidens went to a fundraiser in Brentwood  hosted by Andrew Hauptman and Ellen Bronfman Hauptman, and co-hosted by former Disney and Dreamworks boss Jeffrey Katzenberg.

“The money raised today will help get people to the polls on election day in November,” Katzenberg told Deadline. “Just the idea of Kevin McCarthy and Mitch McConnell in charge should be enough to get people out to vote.”

Also on Friday, Jill hosted a special spouses luncheon for the wives of the leaders of the Summit of the Americas.

“So I don’t know whether you speak English or Spanish but I think mmmmm is the same in both languages,” she said, according to Daily Mail. “I think there were a lot of those today. As we ate this delicious meal.”

“We all ate so much I hope you don’t fall asleep during my speech and I will forgive you if you do,” she went on to joke.

Despite all the problems currently plaguing our country, Jill said last month that she’s still her husband’s biggest supporter.

“I try to be a support for Joe, because I don’t know how many people are saying to him, ‘That was great. That was brilliant.’ I try to be that person for him,” she said, according to MSNBC. “Some days, I see Joe and I’m just like, ‘I don’t know how you’re doing it.’ It’s the pandemic and then it’s the war and then it’s the economy and then it’s the gas prices. You feel like you’re being slammed.”

It should be noted that Joe’s approval ratings are currently in the toilet.
