Meanwhile, many conservatives are reporting an increase in followers! Are the bots being taken offline or is this a mass exodus of Musk-haters?

Hundreds of left-wing Twitter users are posting complaints about losing thousands of followers the day after billionaire Tesla founder Elon Musk bought the platform.
Some users are assuming the losses are due to a mass exodus of Musk-hating liberals and others are convinced bots are being removed.

The truth is likely a combination of the two.
While many people are surely going to delete their accounts in a reactional tantrum only to return one day later, some bot farms are also likely removing their hordes of false accounts before being exposed under the company’s new leadership.
Wow. I'm losing followers today because lefties can't stand Elon Musk. New Twitter is going to be 🔥

Folks across Twitter are losing followers.
— Katie S. Phang (@KatiePhang) April 25, 2022
Is this the Elon Musk Effect or is the Twitterverse being purged of bots?
Who else is losing followers today?
— Angela Belcamino (@AngelaBelcamino) April 25, 2022
Is anyone else losing followers too? I'm seeing people across Twitter report they have lost thousands today. I am down 5,000. Though much of that could be because I'm an idiot with way too many followers. Idk

Weird. I just lost more than 8,000 followers in the last couple of hours. Was it something I said? https://t.co/TS3vwDephc— Mark Hamill (@MarkHamill) April 25, 2022
Just lost 2000 followers. Anyone else losing followers?
— Neera Tanden🌻 (@neeratanden) April 25, 2022
Any other people out there losing followers, today?
— Ana Navarro-Cárdenas (@ananavarro) April 26, 2022
Wow. People quitting this platform for real.
i see lots of people complaining about losing followers but i see nobody grappling with the possibility their tweets are bad
— Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) April 26, 2022
I doubt this is related to Musk, but Twitter seems to be doing a sweep of junk accounts. I've lost about 100 followers, and I've seen many others talking about losing followers as well.

Liberals are complaining they are “all of the sudden” losing followers. Oops.

The Left are finally losing some of their bot followers. https://t.co/zeg8sKXxBH

I lost nearly 4k followers on Twitter yesterday, and gained nearly 1k on Facebook.

If you are unsure, it’s an alternative until we find something better than both, which I believe will be soon.
I have managed to grow a huge community there that is a safe space for discussion.
lost 300 followers today, the only explanation is Elon personally intervened to silence The One And Only Bold Truth Teller On Here, Mr Musk sir I will not be cowed, sir
— Adam H. Johnson (@adamjohnsonNYC) April 25, 2022
I’ve lost over 300 followers so far today… Is Twitter finally cleaning up trolls?
— Shannon Watts (@shannonrwatts) April 25, 2022
That’s odd, just noticed I’ve lost around 1,300 followers in the last few hours? I’ve had autocorrections before but not this many. So strange…

Just lost over 500 followers in one day. Is anyone else seeing this?— Scott Huffman for NC 🇺🇲🇺🇦 (@HuffmanForNC) April 26, 2022
I've lost 500 followers today. Famous accounts say they've lost thousands. If this is due to people deleting their accounts in protest of Elon Musk, DON'T. Twitter is the most powerful voice you have. Don't forfeit it. Stick around and use it to fight evil – at least for now.
— Palmer Report (@PalmerReport) April 25, 2022
I lost more than 1,500 followers today after the news broke about Elon Musk buying Twitter. The question is whether they were real people or mostly bots.
— Jon Cooper (@joncoopertweets) April 25, 2022
Who else lost a lot of followers today? And what do you think — real or bots?
Musk buys Twitter and I just lost over 300 Twitter followers. Are people really leaving or did Twitter try to get rid of bots before Musk takes over?
— (((DeanObeidallah))) (@DeanObeidallah) April 25, 2022
Good news all, I only lost the shitty followers. The awesome ones stayed. Phew.
— Mr. Newberger (@jeremynewberger) April 26, 2022
While these prominent liberals publicly declare their confusion over losing bot followers and people who got triggered over Musk and deleted their accounts, several conservative or libertarian accounts said they gained followers.
One person even looked at hosts for MSNBC and Fox News to learn the left-wing outlet’s hosts lost followers on Twitter while the conservative outlet’s hosts “gained a significant number of followers.”
I really would like a Twitter spokesperson to explain this. pic.twitter.com/pexsEOQjhd

While I’m awesome and totally deserving of 87,000 new followers a day it seems that someone took the shackles off my account. Wonder if they’re burning the evidence before new mgmt comes in? pic.twitter.com/9Mso48qyNP
— Donald Trump Jr. (@DonaldJTrumpJr) April 26, 2022
I’ve gained over 1,000 followers today already, patriots are flocking back!
— Brigitte Gabriel (@ACTBrigitte) April 25, 2022
I gained about 8,000 followers in the last 24 hours
— ⓘ FACT CHECKER (@ElijahSchaffer) April 26, 2022
Anybody else notice their tweets reaching more people and followers going up? Did they already mess with the algorithm?? 👀— Hodgetwins (@hodgetwins) April 26, 2022
I have re gained about 15k followers since Musk’s takeover. Welcome back, folks!— George Papadopoulos (@GeorgePapa19) April 26, 2022
For years I would gain 30,000 new Twitter followers per month and most tweets would get 5,000+ retweets.
— Nigel Farage (@Nigel_Farage) April 26, 2022
Now I've had zero growth for 18 months & engagement is at an all-time low. It's the same for thousands of others.
Twitter's algorithm now needs to change — and change fast! pic.twitter.com/4w9rUALs2X
What a bunch of sad little people! They don’t even know the MAJORITY of their followers, why would it matter if they no longer follow? I never used twatter so I wouldn’t know.
