CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts: A new study indicates that the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine protects recipients for over six months with a 95 percent efficacy rate after the second dose.

Moderna is one of only three companies that have received permission in the United States to distribute their vaccines.

Moderna announced the results Tuesday in a report on the vaccines’ effectiveness.

The Tuesday report duplicated results released in studies by

researchers from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

Vaccine manufacturer Pfizer released similar test results two weeks ago.

Moderna’s just released study is a step in the regulatory procedure to allow the company to sell vaccines to customers and to U.S. companies. Currently, Moderna has only received emergency use authorization to distribute their vaccination.

“The new preclinical data on our variant-specific vaccine candidates give us confidence that we can proactively address emerging variants,” Moderna CEO Stphane Bancel said in a statement.

“Moderna will make as many updates to our COVID-19 vaccine as necessary, until the pandemic is under control,” he added.
