Greene’s repeal of section 230 would eliminate the law that allows online platforms to not be liable for content posted there by others, and would replace it with a provision to require “reasonable, non-discriminatory access to online communications platforms.”

While some of the language reflects the existing section 230 wording, some sections have been changed, removed, or added.

One new section states that “To ensure that the internet serves as an open forum for a true diversity of discourse and viewpoints, including political discourse and viewpoints, unique opportunities for cultural development; and myriad avenues for intellectual activity; and given that the internet is the dominant platform for communication and public debate today, to ensure that major internet communications platforms, which function as common carriers in terms of their size, usage, and necessity, are available to all users on reasonable and non-discriminatory terms free from public or private censorship of religious and political speech”

Speaking in regards to the bill on Thursday afternoon, Greene said, “And now as we see the Biden administration increase their attacks on freedom of speech with their efforts to create their own ministry of truth through Homeland Security, I am very, very excited to introduce this bill. I think it’s I think it’s due. One of our country’s foundational principles is the ability to express ourselves freely.”

“I am cautiously optimistic about the prospects for Twitter now that Elon Musk has taken over. I don’t know Mr. Musk, but I do invite him to come talk with me in Washington DC. I’d be happy to put together a roundtable of all the most brilliant people who have been unjustly banned from Twitter, and he can see for himself the urgent necessity of doing right by them, which we all hope he will as he has stated that he believes in free speech.”

“As a country, we need to renegotiate our relationship with Twitter and Mark Zuckerberg, and to remind them of their civic duties,” said Greene.

When asked by the press who would be on this proposed roundtable, Greene said Milo Yiannopoulos, Alex Jones, and noted that a list of “great people” would be put together for the meeting.
