At least six people, including three children, have been killed after a shooting by a female attacker at a private Christian school in Nashville, Tennessee.
The suspect is also dead after a confrontation with police following the assault at the Covenant School.
She appeared to be a teenager, according to a police spokesperson.
John Howser, from Vanderbilt University Medical Center, earlier confirmed “three pediatric patients were transported to Monroe Carell Jr Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, all having suffered gunshot wounds”.
The three children were pronounced dead after they arrived there.
The attacker died after being “engaged by” officers, police said in a Twitter post.
It was not clear whether anyone else was wounded in the attack.

Other pupils walked to safety, holding hands as they left their school surrounded by police cars, to a nearby church where they were reunited with their parents.
The Nashville Fire Department said on Twitter there were “multiple patients”.
It wrote: “We are responding to an active aggressor at 33 Burton Hills Blvd Covenant School. We can confirm we have multiple patients. Parents coming to the school should go to 20 Burton Hills at this time. This is an active scene.
“A reunification area has been established at 2100 Woodmont Blvd (Woodmont Baptist Church) for parents to meet their children who attend The Covenant School at 33 Burton Hills Blvd.”
The Covenant School has about 200 students from pre-school to sixth grade and was founded as a ministry of Covenant Presbyterian Church in 2001, according to the school’s website.
