These people haven’t traveled to China or interacted with someone infected.
New diagnoses of the coronavirus on the west coast of the United States have risen the count of cases with an ‘unknown origin’ to 4 in the country.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported two new cases of the virus on Friday, one in Oregon and another in Washington state.
Diagnoses of the disease with an unknown origin cannot be traced to someone who traveled to China- the epicenter of the viral pandemic- or interacted with someone since known to be infected with the disease.
The untraced new cases of the disease suggest it might enter into wider circulation, as authorities cannot isolate or quarantine those they don’t even know have the disease. There are far more Americans infected with the disease from a traceable source, with more than 60 Americans having been diagnosed. A majority of US citizens with Coronavirus were travelers aboard the Diamond Princess cruise ship.
President Donald Trump confirmed that he’s considering new travel ban measures to deter further spread of the highly infectious disease in the United States.
Despite tanking the global stock market, there’s reason to believe the panic surrounding the viral disease is overblown. Those infected with the disease have only a small chance of dying as a result of it, with casualties of the disease thus far predominantly being older individuals with preexisting health problems.
More than 85,000 people worldwide have been diagnosed with the disease worldwide, mostly in China. More than 3,000 people have died of the new disease, which experts are theorizing originated from animals such as bats at a wet food market in Wuhan, China.
