Two aircraft reportedly sighted a meteor west of McAllen, Texas, shortly before residents reported hearing a loud explosion and feeling the ground shake.

Hidalgo County Sheriff Eddie Guerra was alerted by federal colleagues that Houston Air Traffic Control received reports from two aircraft claiming they witnessed a meteor west of McAllen.
“Was informed by my Federal partners that Houston Air Traffic Control received reports from two aircraft that they saw a meteorite west of McAllen,” Sheriff Guerra said.

“Where the exact point of impact is unknown. No reports of any damage in that area has been received,” he continued.
