In the early 1960s, DC Comics introduced a storyline so fanciful that it piqued my interest: it started with Bizarro Superman, then was fleshed out with his Bizarro World, where every part of life was exactly the opposite of life on earth. In Bizarro Superman’s world, called Htrae (“earth” spelled backward), society is ruled by the Bizarro Code, which stated “Us do opposite of all Earthly things! We hate beauty! We love ugliness! Is big crime to make anything perfect on Bizarro World!” It was a counterfeit world, a bastardization, and corruption of every concept, every action, everything on earth.
