The Trump administration has filed a lawsuit to block the construction of legal “heroin dens” in Philadelphia. The suit is claiming opening supervised injection sites for heroin addicts would fuel the city’s opioid epidemic.
The lawsuit comes after a Philadelphia non-profit said “safe injection sites” would decrease the number of heroin overdoses and curb the use of opioids in the city.
However, the Trump administration is arguing the proposal would violate the 1986 Crack House Statute Law, and stands firmly opposed to normalizing the use of dangerous and illegal drugs.
“Those who make money by illegally exploiting addiction will be caught and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” stated U.S. attorney William McSwain.
The lawsuit comes in the wake of a series of indictments of doctors at Urgent Care clinics, who provided opioids to drug addicts under the guise of helping them. The case of legal “heroin dens” will be heard in federal court.
